FAVORITE COLOR

If, on the sidewalk at Dawn,

you asked me,

"What is your favorite color?"

I would say to you,

"The blush of the clouds touched by the cool sun, so pink and fair,

this, surely, is my favorite color."

If, in a valley at Noon, you asked me, "What is your favorite color?" I would say to you, "The silver-green of the Willow leaves flirting with the wind, content and fulfilled by the life it gives, this, surely, is my favorite color."

If, on a beach at Dusk, you asked me, "What is your favorite color?" I would say to you, "The pale yellow of the Moon, full and bright despite the long journey, this, surely, is my favorite color."

If, on a hill at Midnight, you asked me, "What is your favorite color?" I would say to you, "The deep, deep bluish-black of the sky, the infinite void in which all things exist, this, surely, is my favorite color."

To me, you would wonder, "But how can you have more favorite colors than one? This is surely madness." To you, I would respond, "Just as the water, the seasons, the sky, change and differ from minute to minute, hour to hour, day to day, year to year,

so, too, does the mind. We would be wise not to hinder it."
